The Short Bus

So, yesterday, Abby gets in the car after getting off the bus. Yes, I drive to the bus stop. Actually I just park after getting Tyler from preschool. I can't see the stop from the house, so can't leave the boys there or stand at the house and wait for her, since someone has to get her off the bus, they can't just drop her off. Its not safe enough to have 3 tagalongs with me, so that leaves the car. Lets see...I can sit in a comfy, heated, leather seat, playing sudoku when its 40 degrees out...or...not. Tough decision!

Anyway, so she's all excited:

Abby: Guess what mom!!!!
Me: What?
Abby: We got to ride on a small bus today because Karen's (her bus driver) bus was broken and then 3 kids didn't fit on the bus so their mom had to drive them and then we met a big bus and we all got onto that one and then we went to pick up Jared (her little friend that is a boy). [Yes, my child speaks in run on sentences]
Me: *confused* It wasn't your normal bus today?
Abby: No, it was a short one! It was so fun!

I didn't tell her that the short bus is usually not one to brag about :) Lets face it, she's in Kindergarten and she loves her yellow bus. So when exactly is it, that we develop such a dislike for the bus? When does it become 'un cool' to ride the bus?

We met with her teacher today for her parent teacher conference. WE ARE SO PROUD!!!! I think that everyone should go to a parent teacher conference. You will leave there feeling like you just gave birth to the next President of the United States. They do such a great job of making you feel like you are Parent of the Year!

Seriously, she is doing so well. I don't remember it all but in a lot of things, she is halfway or 3/4 way completed with what they are supposed to do all year!! There are 45 words that they are supposed to sight read by the end of the year. In just over 2 months, she knows 22 of them. Her teacher said once she finishes those, she'll start giving her 1st grade words. A few things surprised us, such as she doesn't talk a ton in school. We figured she'd be the one always talking out of turn and to her friends when she should be paying attention to the teacher :)

Ok, enough bragging.

Matty had another flu shot today, poor guy. When its their first one, they have to get 2 of them 30 days apart. We are now all officially immunized. Bring on the flu! Just stay away from us. I asked about getting him to drink milk. Their advice? Let him get starving hungry, then he'll drink it. He is the hardest one to transition to milk. When I hand him a bottle of milk, even if its 50-50 milk and formula, he takes a sip and looks at me like I just handed him poison as he chucks it across the room. Oh dear. He's still nursing too, about twice a day. He's finally starting to walk...he's so stinkin' proud of himself! He will stand up on his own for a few seconds and if we stabilize him, he'll take a few steps. But mostly, he's a crawling man. I think he's going to be in the army. He's such a fast crawler.

Sometimes I wonder if the reason he is slower at all these things is because he is likely our last baby. The other 3 had no problems moving to milk and were all walking by a year. Maybe he just knows Mommy needs him to be a baby for as long as possible.

Other breaking news...my Albertsons bill for the week:
Spent $79.29, saved 212.66 for a 73% savings. I'm definately stocked up on PAM and spices/seasonings for the next year!
